Carey is famous for using her whistle note style in most of her songs. Guinness world records refer to Carey as the Songbird supreme. She is an excellent songwriter, an acclaimed singer, actress, and entrepreneur.

Background

Mariah Carey was born on 27th March 1970. Her parents were Alfred Roy Carey and Patricia Carey. Her father, an aeronautical engineer, was an African American and Afro Venezuelan, while her mother, an opera singer, and voice coach was an Irish American. Her family disowned Carey’s mum after eloping with a black man.

Carey’s parents divorced when she was three years. Her mother raised her and her younger brother Morgan while her elder sister Alison moved in with her father. Her parent’s divorce affected young Carey. She sought solace in music at a tender age of 4. Patricia, Carey’s mother, noticed her daughter’s talent at a young age when rehearsing for her opera. Her daughter’s pitch was great. She became her vocal coach and trained her to control and master the Whistle register. Carey’s mum never pushed her to pursue Opera since Mariah was never interested.

Career

Her songwriting journey began in High school, where she wrote poems and add melodies. She composed songs with Gavin Christopher in the basement of his father’s store. They completed a four-song demo and were unsuccessful at passing it to music labels. She became friends with Brenda K. Starr, a pop singer and songwriter, who eventually introduced Carey to the head of Columbia Records, Tommy Mottola.
