Arnold Schwarzenegger

Throughout his many endeavors, he has had many nicknames. In his bodybuilding days, he was The Austrian oak, The Governator during his political career, and Schwartzy, the actor. He is a man who has worn different hats and achieved massive success in each. He is an actor, former California Governor, former bodybuilder, businessman, and author. He was an immigrant who went to America with empty pockets, little English, and a big desire to be the best. 


Born on July 30, 1947, in Austria, Schwarzenegger was raised in a strict home where the rod wasn’t spared for a spoilt child. He had a great relationship with his mother, Aurelia, but a horrible one with his father, Gustav. To the extent, Schwarzenegger failed to attend his father’s burial! Gustav favored his older brother over him because Arnold wasn’t his biological son. He was an average student in school but stood out for his good character.

Body Building Career

He started weight training at 14 years. He was serious about succeeding in bodybuilding from the get-go. He worked with an intensive trainer, Dan Farmer, and studied psychology about the power of the mind at 15years. He began his competitive career at 17 years. He entered a competition in Graz, and he was placed second. He gained fame in the bodybuilding circles after being voted “The best-built man of Europe.” He was second in the Mr. Universe competition in London in 1966. One of the judges at the event, Charles Bennet, was impressed with Schwarzenegger and offered to coach him at home.

At 21, he achieved his lifelong dream of moving to the United States in October 1968. He trained and made friends with people who made him grow in the field. He won his first Mr. Olympia title in 1970 at 23 years in New York and defended it seven times. He has also won the Mr. Universe title five times between 1966-1969.

Acting Career

Schwarzenegger’s first acting role was Hercules at the Hercules in New York movies in 1969. His second movie was the 1973’s The Long Goodbye, where he played a deaf-mute hitman. At the beginning of his acting career, he had a hard time fitting in due to his heavy accent. Despite this, he worked hard and has been featured in more than 30 films. He has also tried directing and producing the film. Some of the major films he has been featured in are; Conan, The Terminator, Commando, The Running Man, Predator, Total Recall, True Lies, and Last Action Hero. He made a cameo in The Kid & I and The Expendables while in office as The Governor of California. After leaving the office in February 2011, he went back to film and has been featured in various movies


Before he learned and understood English, Schwarzenegger decided he was a Republican. He was elected as Governor of California state in 2003 at a Recall election. His first term ended in 2007. He ran for a second term and was re-elected for a second term from 2007-2011.
