Katy Perry Biography

Born as Katheryn Hudson on 25th October 1984, Katy Perry, as she is professionally known, is an American Pop Star who has consistently defied gravity through her successful music career. She has released hits like Dark Horse, Roar, Wide awake, Kissed a girl, and more.

Katy was born in a conservative Christian home in California. Her parents, Keith and Mary Hudson, are born again Pentecostal pastors. She has two siblings. Her elder sister, Angela Hudson and younger brother, David Hudson, also a singer. Secular music was banned in the Hudson family, and the children were also not allowed to watch cable T.V. channels like MTV.

Katy started her music career at a young age. As a choir member at her parents’ church. At the age of 16, Katy recorded her first Christian pop single called ‘Trust in me’ as Katy Hudson. The album sold less than 200 copies before RedHill label closed shop. Moving to L.A. at the age of 17, she adopted Katy Perry as her stage name. She plunged into secular music, rebelling against her parents’ teachings.

She had little success at the beginning of her music career in L.A. Signed to Glen Ballard’s label, Java, she started working on a solo record that was halted after Java was dropped.

She was then introduced to Columbia records and signed as a solo artist. For two years, she worked with the label until she was dropped in 2006.

Her thriving music career was flagged off by her hit single ‘Ur so gay,’ which Madonna publicized as her personal favorite. This was after she was signed to capitol records in 2007. Her song ‘I Kissed A Girl‘ co-written with Dr. Luke topped the charts in the U.S.

Katy has made it to the most successful female artist in the world. Her Teenage dreams album produced five number-one singles on the chart. The singles, California Gurls featuring Snoop Dogg, Firework, Teenage dreams, E.T. and Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) made the pop star’s album equal Michael Jackson’s Bad album. She has the biggest Twitter following in the world. And a net worth of over $100 Million.

Katy was no overnight success. She worked and fought hard to achieve what she has over time. Her famous quote says, “Sometimes if you want to achieve something great, there will be curveballs. You just have to dodge them every once in a while.”
