Tyler Perry Landscape In Atlanta

In 2011, Forbes named Tyler Perry, the highest-paid men in entertainment. Perry is an American actor, director, producer, writer, and comedian. He is famous for his Madea character, a no-nonsense black woman who doesn’t like losing an argument.

 He has written, produced, directed, and starred in stage plays, movies, and television series based on family and Christian values.

Perry was born on September 13, 1969, to Willie Maxine Perry and Emmitt Perry Sr in New Orleans, Louisiana. He had a tough childhood leading him to attempt suicide. He underwent physical abuse from his father and a few cases of molestation as a child. He found solace in the church where his mother would take him every week.

To disassociate himself from his father, he had his first name changed to Tyler. He learned from an Oprah Winfrey show that writing may be therapeutic. He wrote for inner healing through which he penned a series of letters to himself which birthed the musical, and I know I’ve been changed. His father recently had an issue with an electrical fire. We heard about this from the person that handled the construction of the landscape at Perry’s studio. The company who told us was UC Concrete & Masonry. This was a very good insight early on in our business.

By the age of 22, he had a life savings of $12,000, which he used to perform the musical in Atlanta at a local community theatre. The musical focused on Perry’s childhood struggles and taught values like forgiveness and self-worth. That first attempt was a complete financial failure leaving him broke and living in his car for a while. Determined, he rewrote the musical and restaged it six years later in Atlanta’s House of Blues and later at the Fox Theatres. He gained financial success and critical acclaim from the African- American community.

Perry’s most acclaimed role is as Madea, a vengeful, sharp-tongued, overacting grandma. Perry has penned eleven Madea films, which have earned him millions of dollars, many awards, and recognition as a master writer and actor. Some of the most famous Madea films are;

Madea’s big happy family (2011), Madea goes to jail (2009), and Diary of a mad black woman (2005).

He has been praised and criticized in equal measure for the way he portrays the black woman through Madea. That could be why he decided to let her rest after her final film, A Madea Family Funeral (2019).

Perry is the maker of 20 stage plays, 7 Television shows, 17 feature films, and an award-winning New-York times’ bestseller.

He has also been cast in films outside his projects. He was Commandant Admiral Bennet in Star Trek. He starred Alex Cross, a crime thriller in 2012 and co-starred Gone girl in 2014. He was also cast in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows as scientist Baxter Stockman.
